Newest Additions: Master Bedroom

My plan to revamp our master bedroom is progressing splendidly.  This past weekend led us to HomeGoods, and I must say we spent our money well. Originally we went there just to return a sconce I didn’t like, but one can really never go to HomeGoods without looking…which inevitably leads to purchasing.

I have been on a quest for a full-length mirror, some art to go above our bed, and nightstands. I am also on the hunt for new bedside lamps, but I haven’t found any yet that I love. Funny how that works, isn’t it? When you have the time and the cash, you can’t find anything you like!

Here is the updated look after adding this weekend’s finds and hanging a few photos we’d had waiting.

Sidenote: The photos above the bed are sky shots we took while on our cross country road trip moving from D.C. to Sacramento. I love having them for decor — such a fun memory.

I know we still have some more work to do, but I’m excited about the progress! Our room finally feels homey, bright and colorful and it’s definitely a place where I like to retreat. We also picked up some paint samples — painting and bedside lamps are the next two items on the list!

What do you have on your wishlist for upgrading your master bedroom?

Progress

The past three weeks have required a lot of work! Since we moved in, we’ve had these epic “work” weekends getting settled, unpacking and making trips to Lowe’s and furniture stores. All boxes are fully unpacked, rooms are mostly organized and we are getting the hang of how life in the new house works. We also finally have a functional backyard that I plan to utilize for sunning later, which is an amazing luxury to finally have.

While I’m typically not one to splurge all at once, we need a lot of new furniture and items that I consider essential to function in our new home so we’ve been buying like crazy. Here are the furniture updates:

  • We found a couch for our new living room and I love it!! And I have to say, it was a steal. We got it from Rock Bottom furniture in Roseville — I recommend checking them out. (Forgive the photos — the light is pouring in and the couch is hard to photograph
  • Had to buy throw pillows for the couch, too — I chose a brown/taupe/aqua color combo.
  • We finally bought a second dresser. We originally shared one and had clothes piled up everywhere; quite a damper on our master bedroom decor. Our old closet had more shelving so we survived the one dresser thing, but now it’s time to be grownups and have a full set of bedroom furniture.
  • I completely fell in love with this amazing shabby chic cabinet while shopping the other day and decided I would be unable to live without it. I’m so pleased because it fits just where I wanted it to in our entryway! I love picking out accent pieces — they are more fun to buy than the basics.
  • We will soon live in a house with some privacy! Window treatments have been ordered and will be installed Monday morning. We can replace the temporary ones in our bedroom and bathroom and actually cover all the other windows. I feel like we have these huge gaping windows that people can just stare into whenever they feel like it, and it’s really not fun. (Okay, I know we don’t have a ton of people walking by but it still feels strange.)
  • I have to add a picture of my dining table because it makes me happy:

Jason also got a small lawn mower for our small patch of grass in the backyard, so I think we’re all set for the must-haves. I feel like I can almost have company over. Left on my wish list is wall art, end tables and a new coffee table.

Happy Sunday!
