Newest Additions: Master Bedroom

My plan to revamp our master bedroom is progressing splendidly.  This past weekend led us to HomeGoods, and I must say we spent our money well. Originally we went there just to return a sconce I didn’t like, but one can really never go to HomeGoods without looking…which inevitably leads to purchasing.

I have been on a quest for a full-length mirror, some art to go above our bed, and nightstands. I am also on the hunt for new bedside lamps, but I haven’t found any yet that I love. Funny how that works, isn’t it? When you have the time and the cash, you can’t find anything you like!

Here is the updated look after adding this weekend’s finds and hanging a few photos we’d had waiting.

Sidenote: The photos above the bed are sky shots we took while on our cross country road trip moving from D.C. to Sacramento. I love having them for decor — such a fun memory.

I know we still have some more work to do, but I’m excited about the progress! Our room finally feels homey, bright and colorful and it’s definitely a place where I like to retreat. We also picked up some paint samples — painting and bedside lamps are the next two items on the list!

What do you have on your wishlist for upgrading your master bedroom?

Weekend To-Do’s

Happy weekend, everyone!

I have a short home to-do list this weekend, but mostly I’m hoping to lay low with my husband and our kitties. We were busy this past week and are all ready to relax!

Weekend To-Do’s:

  • Buy more nails
  • Hang pictures
  • Think about paint colors for the master bedroom
  • Do some light house cleaning
  • Possibly shop for bedside lamps and a clock

We’ll see how much I accomplish. What will you all be doing for your homes this weekend?

I Don’t DIY

I have to admit it to myself: I am not a DIY-er. At least not on a major scale where I can put together awesome pieces and show them to you on this blog. (You may recall my love/hate relationship with Pinterest, as well.)

Do you know what I am good at?  Reading decor blogs, earning my paychecks and shopping online! This isn’t because I have an attitude that I’m “above” DIY or anything like that. Quite the opposite. I just don’t have the drive or skills to get down and dirty with a drill or a saw.

My latest battle with the non-DIY-er in me came when searching for the perfect headboard. This is part of our current effort to revamp our master bedroom. Lighten and brighten the colors, add some new accessories and make it feel a little more like a grown up bedroom. It’s a work in progress, but I think we’ll get there.

New bedding! Light and bright. First stage of the master bedroom re-do.

I absolutely adore the reclaimed wood look, but reclaimed would headboards cost about $1,000 — or more. Jason and I just don’t have that cash to drop right now, and if I did have it, I’d spend it on travel. I spent many hours reading DIY headboard articles claiming how “easy” and “quick” it is to create your own. After my research, I can officially say I totally disagree. It is not easy, nor is it quick. So, no thank you.

Back to the drawing board.

Oh, sure. It's sooo easy to do this in a day.

An example of a DIY headboard. Oh, sure. It’s sooo easy to do this in a day.

Stay tuned for more on the master bedroom re-do! I also have a lovely new piece to share from my living room — which I’ll do just as soon as I get some artwork hung up to complete the look (yes, I can use a level, a hammer and nails).
